Can I complain for a minute? Ironically, I want to complain about having to express my complaints!

I really like the Greek workbook series I use. But, it seems like a lot of the writing exercises are about expressing complaints. They are often of the form “Write a letter to the mayor/ director/ manager expressing your complaints about…” .

Honestly, one time I wrote a paragraph (in Greek) for my tutor complaining that I was tired of expressing my complaints! Yea.

So, why are we asked to express so many complaints?

I recently watched the movie Kung Fu Panda 3. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it. It’s great! In the movie, Master Shifu says to Po,

If you only do what you can do, you will never be more than you are now.

Here’s how I think that relates to learning Greek – If you want to learn more Greek, try things you haven’t done before.

• Read a book in Greek. You don’t have to start with great literature. Try a book that’s been written for kids
• Watch a video
• Listen to a podcast
• Listen to Greek music
• Join a conversation group
• Use whatever Greek you know, whenever you get the chance. Even if it is just a few words
• Get a tutor
• Write something
• Use newly learned words or grammar concepts, even if you make mistakes

As Master Shifu says, “Incredible power awaits you.”
