I had a hard time knowing when to use «ότι» or «που» when I wanted to say “that.” Then I learned a few phrases like «χαίρομαι που» and «συγγνώμη που», but I still made tons of mistakes.
Then I found this video from Linguatree titled, “After this video, you won’t make this mistake again”. After 6 minutes, my problems with «που» and «ότι» were solved!

A taxi was the last place I expected to have a grammar lesson!
Following a long day of sight-seeing in Athens this past April, my husband and I hailed a taxi to take us to our next destination. After a greeting in Greek, the conversation turned to questions about why I was learning Greek, how long I’d been studying and what methods I’d been using to learn the language. I don’t know about you, but these topics have become so familiar that they are now easy to answer!
Of course, somewhere in the conversation I made a grammar mistake. No surprise there. Cue grammar lesson – in Greek! The driver was kind and patient about explaining the grammar and he seemed genuinely interested in making the effort to help improve my language skill.
Moral of the story, use your language skills when the opportunity presents itself. You never know where the conversation will lead!
For Duolingo Greek learners, so many things are pink (ροζ).
So. many. things. We get pink elephants, pink avocados, pink water, pink gorillas, pink tables and more. Early on in the learning tree if an object has a color, odds are, that color is pink!
For the Duolingo Greek learning community, the near constant use of the word <<ροζ>> seems to be both a source of amusement and of frustration. One popular thought is that this use of the word <<ροζ>> over and over is meant to create sentences that are unusual and therefore memorable. On the other hand, the argument exists that surely there must be more useful colors to learn other than pink.
Are all those <<ροζ>> objects unusual and memorable? Absolutely.
But…
There must be more going on behind the scenes in that word choice.

I’ve rounded up a bunch of resources, some of which I have used and some of which I plan to use. There are so many great videos out there – I may need a couple of weeks to watch them all!
My current focus is on the simple and continuous past tense forms. I understand the idea, but still occasionally struggle to decide which form is correct!

My mistake occurs when I say or write a sentence that has a direct object. Recently, I was talking in a conversation group about a bear I had seen. I said, <<Γενικά, οι αρκούδες φοβούνται οι άνθρωποι>>, I should have said, <<Γενικά, οι αρκούδες φοβούνται τους ανθρώπους>>. I frequently forget the change that is needed in the direct object, for example from <<οι άνθρωποι>> to <<τους ανθρώπους>>.
I came to the conclusion that my mistake has the following causes:
-I rush when trying to speak
-Maybe I don’t understand the grammar
-The mistake is fossilized or “stuck”

Mistakes are inevitable in second language learning. They are just part of the process. Knowing this, I try to not let the fact that I’m going to make mistakes get in the way of speaking.
