Some books I’ve read in Greek and recommend:
- Η κοιλάδα με τιs πεταλούδες (η Ελένη Δικαίου) – Although written for children, it has super interesting contemporary themes. Estimated reading level: upper Α1 / A2
- Το νησί της Μαρίας (Victoria Hislop) – Translated from English. A fictional telling of the history of the island of Spinalonga. Estimated reading level: upper A1 / A2
- Ραντεβού με τη βασίλισσα (η Λένα Διβάνη) – The first in a series. While it is aimed at children 8 and up, the story wasn’t childish. Interesting themes and historical setting. Estimated reading level: A2
- Ένα παιδί από το πουθενά (η Άλκη Ζέη) – I really enjoyed this story! Estimated reading level: A2
- η μωβ ομπρέλα (η Άλκη Ζέη) – A fictional glimpse into life in Greece before WWII. Estimated reading level: Α2
- Απίθανα Πλάσματα (Katherine Rundell) – Translated from English. A fast paced fantasy adventure full of centaurs, dragons and other creatures. I read this in Greek, then in English and then in Greek again! Estimated reading level: A2
- Ο θησαυρός της βαγίας (Η Ζωρζ Σαρή) – You can’t go wrong with a book that includes a treasure hunt! Estimated reading level: B1+
- Το καπλάνι της βιτρίνας (η Άλκη Ζέη) – Available as a free audio book here. Estimated reading level: B1+
- Το αγόρι στο θεωρείο (η Αγγελική Δαρλάση) – Interesting themes and historical setting. Estimated reading level: upper Β1+
- Κυνηγώντας την ελευθερία (W. B. ‘Sandy’ Thomas) – Translated from English. A WWII memoir of a prisoner of war. Estimated reading level: upper B1 / B2
- Η τελευταία μαύρη γάτα (ο Ευγένιος Τριβιζάς) – This was difficult for me, but worth the effort. Full of humor in spite of heavy themes. Estimated reading level: B2+
