Need extra motivation to study? Do you want a direction for the material that you are covering? Try preparing for the Greek Language Exam! The preparation can help round out your learning by focusing equally on reading, writing, speaking and listening. Even if you don’t take the test, the preparation gives a solid, well-rounded foundation in the language.
Good luck if you decide to take the test! I hope you find the following resources useful. I used them to prepare for my A2 exam and I plan to use them again to be ready for the B1 exam in May 2024. Summer is over and it is time to kick the learning into high gear!
- Online Diagnostic Test -from the Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας. The online diagnostic test is a great way to get an idea of what your Greek level is so you can target your preparation.
- Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας All the information you need to know! Of course, the whole page is in Greek (and not easy either). Navigating the page, finding the info you need and completing the registration is almost like a test before the test! Registration generally (at least in USA) starts February 1 for the May tests.
- Sample Practice Exams – Get a feel for the format and timing of the exam by using the samples provided on the Κέντρο Ελληνικής Γλώσσας website. I used these samples multiple times. If you try the exam before you start your study and then again close to test time, you can get a sense for how much your learning has grown!
- Ελληνικά Α, Ελληνικά Β workbooks. Excellent preparation for all four strands of the test (reading, writing, speaking and listening). I have found the exercises in the workbooks very helpful.
- If you plan to take the test, consider hiring a tutor. Before I started working with my tutor, I could barely write in Greek. With my tutor’s help, not only did my writing improve, so did my understanding of grammar.
- Greek listening B1 Level – Learn Greek by Ioanna. A practice B1 listening example.
Have you taken the Greek Language Exam? What resources did you use?
One response to “If I Did It, You Can Too! – The Greek Language Exam”
Thank you for these resources. I love taking tests, because it gives a person honest feedback about their level of proficiency. I’m not sure if I will take the test, but I am going to use these resources to study.
